Aloha to Aging, Inc. is one of the grant recipients for the Cobb Impact Grant from The Cobb Community Foundation. From June through September, these monies will allow Aloha to Aging to offer two insightful simulation programs that promote empathy for those assisting individuals with age-related health challenges. Both simulation trainings, “ASiST” and Dementia 24/7, offer unique and engaging experiences.

This training is open to the community, including: county/city service professionals, lay persons, faith-based leaders, Stephen Ministry teams, paid in-home caregivers, family caregivers, and high school and college students. They are also in need of volunteers to help facilitate the trainings.

“ASiST” Aging Sensitivity Simulation Training – Focusing on common age-related health challenges and how they affect the older population and what it is like to handle everyday tasks. These include neuropathy, hearing loss, vision loss, language impairment, mobility and balance. Trainings are being offered throughout June through September.

Aloha to Aging will offer Dementia 24/7 trainings July – September. Dementia 24/7 simulation delivers insightful, impactful learning sessions to guide on the challenges of aging persons living with dementia, making one more empathetic to individuals facing this growing issue. The five experiences to help one better understand their issues are: confusion and frustration, stigma and isolation, communication and language, memory loss and forgetfulness, and dependency and despair.

“We are very excited for the opportunity to train not only family caregivers, but the Cobb community at large. With the increasing number of aging Cobb residents, we feel these two programs are key in helping lay persons and professionals alike provide a more positive and empathetic approach when assisting aging individuals dealing with health-related challenges,” said Dawn Reed, executive director of Aloha to Aging, Inc.

Please call Jennifer Liebich at 770-722-7641 or email Jennifer@alohatoging.org for training dates, time, locations or if you would like to host a training or volunteer to help facilitate the trainings.
