The Otis Redding Foundation will host “Celebrating 75 Years of Otis Redding” September 9-11 in Macon, GA. The celebration kicks off with September 9, 2016 being declared Otis Redding Day in Macon, where a weekend of festivities honoring the late King of Soul will be a highlight of the “Year of Georgia Music.” Otis Redding Day will feature free music, film and fun for all ages on Redding’s 75th birthday in downtown Macon, where The Otis Redding Foundation and Mini Museum is headquartered. Saturday, September 10, “A Picnic Under the Stars with Otis Redding” will screen concert footage and documentaries of Redding in the city’s historic Coleman Hill park. The weekend culminates in a red carpet, black tie tribute concert, “An Evening of Respect,” at the Macon City Auditorium at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 11, with other special events throughout the weekend.

“An Evening of Respect” will be headlined by St. Paul and the Broken Bones, paying tribute to their idol Otis Redding just ahead of releasing their sophomore album. The Reddings, featuring sons Dexter and Otis III, will reunite for the evening with former bandmate Mark Lockett. Also set to hit the stage are Macon native, Grammy-nominated violinist Robert McDuffie and former Allman Brothers Band pianist and current Rolling Stones keyboardist Chuck Leavell, as well as the Otis Redding Music Camp All-Stars.
