Water Day – August 7

The Chattahoochee Nature Center (CNC) needs a few more helpers at Water Day on Sunday, August 7. They can use about 5-6 additional volunteers to help at Water Day, one of the Center’s Family Fun Days. They are especially looking for a volunteer to wear a CNC costume, and for additional help on the 1:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. shift. (Volunteers need to be ages 12+ – with a parent, or 16+ to help on their own.)

Duties might include: crafts/face painting, greeting, assisting with sprinkler games,  handing out canoe paddles/pfds, helping seat people for puppet shows, vendor/exhibitor assistance, info and membership tables, and wearing a CNC animal costume.

If you are available to help, please indicate where you would like to work and which shift time when you call or email Libby Lintel (contact information below).

Woodland Restoration Day – August 7

There are some additional spots available at CNC’s invasive removal day on August 7. Join CNC Naturalist, Kait White, in their woodlands to remove English ivy and other invasives to encourage native plant growth in the area. This is a great opportunity for families (children must be ages 5+) or scout groups!

Sunday, August 7 from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Ages 5 – Adult
Registration open until August 1 – There is a maximum size of 60 on this date.

Upcoming invasive removal events with availability are: Sept 17 from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., October 2 from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Tabling Events in August

The CNC can use help at summer tabling events. Tabling events are a great way to share information with new friends about upcoming events and programs at the CNC.
We need 1-4 adult volunteers (or a youth/adult team) to help at the following tabling events:

  • Thurs, August 4 – Indoor tabling event at Cox Enterprises at their annual Cox Giving Campaign Fair from 10:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. They need 1-2 adult volunteers who are familiar with the CNC for this event to explain the center, programs, and volunteer opportunities. Volunteers would need to stop by the CNC to pick up tabling supplies.
  • Sat, August 20 – Tabling event at Zoo Atlanta for Fulton County Family Days. The Zoo expects 6,000-7,000 visitors during these days! Tabling event runs from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. with set-up prior to event in the morning. Volunteers would need to stop by the CNC to pick up a pop-up tent and table supplies.
  • Sun, August 21 – Tabling event at Zoo Atlanta for Fulton County Family Days. Tabling event runs from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. with set-up prior to event.  Volunteers would need to stop by the CNC to pick up a pop-up tent and table supplies.
  • Sun, August 21 – Emerald Corridor Foundation Tailgating Event. Location: Proctor Creek, Time: TBA, but likely from 1:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. This volunteer will assist a CNC naturalist.

*Usually you will need to be able to visit the CNC several days before the event to pick up a tote bag of flyers, and (sometimes) a portable table and (rarely) a pop-up tent.

Please contact Libby Lintel by email at l.lintel@chattnaturecenter.org or by phone at 770-992-2055 ext. 223 for more details on any of these events.
