The Genealogy Society of Cobb County Georgia will have its monthly meeting with the program “Looking in All the Right Places: An Overview of Geography & Genealogy” on Tuesday, July 26 from 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Marietta.

Special guest Karen Molohon, a genealogist with 35 years of genealogy research experience, will illustrate in her presentation the interdependence of researching both geography and genealogy in determining a clear and accurate picture of ancestral history. The genealogist needs to know not only about the longitude and latitude of the place but also the location’s relationship to the broader territory and the physical, biological and cultural qualities of the region where our ancestors lived. Interested persons are invited to come to the meeting and learn more about gazetteers, what happens when the location changes names, determining shifting boundaries and disappearing jurisdictions, maps, high-level overview of migration trails, GPS, interactive maps, and available software.

Molohon is active in the genealogical community, serving as webmaster of the Cobb Genealogical Society and having previously served as president, as well as other positions. There will also be a 15-minute presentation of the information that is available on the Society’s website that can potentially help members with their research.

First Presbyterian Church of Marietta is located at 189 Church Street in Marietta. For more information, visit www.cobbgagensoc.org or contact ccgs@cobbgagensoc.org.
