Lassiter Junior Bryan Powell Named US Paralympics Track & Field High School All-American

Lassiter High School eleventh grader Bryan Powell was named a 2012 US Paralympics Track & Field High School All-American for his javelin performance. Powell is ranked sixth in the nation in Paralympics javelin, placing him in an elite group of only 53 students nationwide.

During summer 2012, Powell placed first in the four events (the 100m, 200m, 400m, and 800m) during the National Junior Disability Championship in Mesa, Az. He has been racing for four years with the Georgia Blazers and trains for six to eight hours per week. The entire Lassiter community came together during the 2011-2012 school year to raise money for Powell’s competition in Arizona.

In response to his achievements, Powell commented he “likes being able to compete, travel and meet new people.”
