The official ribbon cutting ceremony at the new Mostly Mutts shelter was held on Tuesday, April 12. Around 100 people came to celebrate the opening of Mostly Mutts’ new 8100-square foot building at 3238 Cherokee Street in Kennesaw. Guests included Mostly Mutts’ board members, donors, adopters, foster families and volunteers, along with supporters from the community.
The state-of-the-art shelter is an amazing sanctuary for rescued pets. Features include complete separation of the quarantine section and “healthy” section of the building. There are private air-conditioned rooms, a meet and greet room, stainless steel feeding and vetting stations, playrooms and even a “kitten aquarium” right in the reception area.
“We are excited to show off our beautiful new facility and want to give you a glimpse of how the support you provide to Mostly Mutts benefits our sweet animals,” said Tammy Turley, executive director. She added, “None of this would have been possible with out the generosity of Anne Reed, an incredibly devoted animal lover, who provided Mostly Mutts the opportunity to take over the facility so we could save more animals.”
Since the beginning of 2016, Mostly Mutts has already completed 142 pet adoptions. Adoptions take place every Saturday at Barrett Parkway PetSmart, every other Sunday at Ansley Mall Pet Supermarket and also at the new shelter.
Mostly Mutts strives to reduce the number of animals euthanized at local shelters in Metro Atlanta by working with animal control officers to save adoptable dogs that are moments away from being put to sleep. Often, these dogs are sick, injured and require rehabilitation. Mostly Mutts provides housing, health care, training, and physical and emotional care to these rescued animals until they can be placed in a new “furever home.” Since 2004, Mostly Mutts has saved over 5,500 animals.
Mostly Mutts is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization, licensed by the Dept. of Agriculture. It is privately funded through donations and adoption fees.
