For the first time in the history of Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta, the iconic Girl Scout cookie will be available for the general public to purchase online. Through the site, ShowMeTheCookies.com, cookie-lovers will be able to choose from all varieties of the current year’s cookies and have them shipped to themselves or even across the country.

“The question we constantly get asked from the public is how can they purchase Girl Scout cookies if they don’t know a Girl Scout or can’t find a booth sale,” said Leslie Gilliam, Communications Manager of Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta.

ShowMeTheCookies.com solves that problem by allowing customers to connect with an individual Girl Scout’s online cookie shop and receive their order in a matter of days. Proceeds benefit that girl’s troop as well as Girl Scouting in the 34-counties served by GSGATL. If a customer wants to make an immediate purchase, the website allows for them to input their zip code to find a booth sale in their area.

The Girl Scout cookie program dates back almost 100 years and while a lot has changed, the goals haven’t. “When you see a Girl Scout selling cookies, there’s more going on than you might realize,” Gilliam said. Through the cookie program, Girl Scouts focus on learning five skills: goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills and business ethics. For the youngest Girl Scouts, learning to speak confidentially with adults and making eye contact is considered an important first step in gaining valuable people skills. As girls progress through the program, their skill levels do as well. With digital cookie sales, for example, girls are in charge of creating online content, uploading videos, taking credit cards and tracking customer orders.

Girl Scouts is proud to once again offer the Smiles4Military program which allows consumers to donate boxes of cookies to military personnel. “We often hear from our service men and women that getting a box of Girl Scout cookies is like getting a taste a home,” according to Gilliam. Last year, Girl Scout of Greater Atlanta was able to donate 163,000 boxes to military at home and abroad.

Girl Scout cookies are on sale January – March and proceeds go directly to benefit a girl’s troop as well as provide program and scholarship opportunities for girls and trainings for volunteers throughout the greater Atlanta area.

Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta, Inc. is the premier leadership development organization for girls, serving more than 42,000 girls with more than 17,000 volunteers in 34 counties in the greater metropolitan Atlanta area, northwest Georgia and Polk County, Tennessee.
