Event is open to the public and will be held at the KSU Center

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at KSU’s College of Continuing and Professional Education is set to host a grand celebration for the 50th OLLI social on Monday, May 23 from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. Celebrating 17 years of service to education and social opportunities for adults age 50 or older, the program’s 50th social promises to be a one-of-a-kind golden event.

Guests will walk the red-carpet into an elegantly adorned ballroom where they will have the opportunity to socialize and pose for pictures before dining. Dinner will be followed by entertainment and dancing to the tunes of a live band. After the catered dinner, guests can indulge in the sweet array of offerings at the dessert bar. Semi-formal attire is encouraged for all guests.

KSU’S OSHER LIFELONG LEARNING INSTITUTE TO HOST GOLDEN GALA 1The event’s longtime supporters and sponsors for the gala are WellStar Atherton Place and and WellStar Good Life Club. WellStar Atherton Place opened in 1988 and has become a leader in senior living. They are Atlanta’s most trusted resource for senior living, independent living, personal care and memory care. The Good Life Club serves as an organization that promotes health and well-being for seniors in the community. This year the Marietta Hearing Center joins the gala as a new sponsor. The Marietta Hearing Center aims to provide quality hearing health care services for adults and children in Marietta and the surrounding communities.

“We’re thrilled to offer these types of events that provide a forum of active socializing,” said Barbara Calhoun, dean. “Those attending our socials have the opportunity to make new friends and strengthen existing relationships while they engage in activities they enjoy with others who share similar interests.”

The event, held at the KSU Center, draws its inspiration from the program’s humble beginning in 1999 with a pioneering group of 30 individuals, then referred to as “Golden University.” Their vision for the program included a non-threatening learning environment for fellow seniors and an enjoyable, social gathering.

“Much credit has to be given to Dean Calhoun for her support and the wonderful people who have contributed,” said Dick Harp, OLLI director. “I personally treasure the many friends I have made over the years and the wonderful people I have met. We hope the socials have provided much pleasure for all our members. We will strive to continue these events.”

Throughout the years OLLI has been a continuous program of knowledge and excellence for a vibrant learning community. Classes are offered year round in the areas of technology, art and music, finance, fitness, leisure and more. There are no tests, grades or exams – just a chance to dive into learning and remember the adventure of intellectual growth.

OLLI’s 50th Golden Social is open to the public, and the cost is $10 per person. Advanced registration is required. All guests will receive a special gift, and giveaways will be given throughout the night for the best-dressed individuals. Registration for the Golden Social can be completed online at ccpe.kennesaw.edu or by calling 470-578-6765.
