On Saturday, April 30, the Walton High School Art Club was selected as winners of the 2016 Chalk 1 Up 4 Safety “Chalk-Off.”

Held at The Woodruff Arts Center’s Sifly Piazza, teen groups from all throughout metro Atlanta competed to see who could create the most compelling rail crossing, anti-texting/driving, anti-bullying, or Internet safety design and message. Walton’s anti-bullying design tied for first place and will be awarded $500, courtesy of Montlick & Associates.

The contest was open to groups of teens, aged 14 to 18 competing on behalf of their school or a community group (i.e. Boys and Girls Club, church youth group). Teams competed in separate middle and high school age brackets. The contest was made possible by support from the Allstate Foundation, The Woodruff Arts Center and Montlick & Associates. The Norfolk Southern Corporation also supported the program by offering their corporate headquarters as an alternate site, in case of inclement weather. Safe America President and CEO, Len Pagano, thanked the organizations, noting that the “concept of using art is a great one – since people ‘get it’ when they look at a drawing. Our next step is to entice youth to share these important safety messages online to all of their peers, via social media.”
