Writer’s Guidelines: Making It in the EAST COBBER

parade&fest-2009-anneparke 045

The EAST COBBER monthly helps East Cobb residents promote awareness of their good works, causes, schools, and clubs by publishing the information. Many East Cobbers are interested in learning how to get published in the EAST COBBER magazine or any one of our blogs to spotlight community or service projects and successful fundraising events, or the special honors received or milestones achieved by a school, club or individual. Here are some guidelines for preparing news/articles for submission. We appreciate your interest and welcome your comments and suggestions on how we can serve you better.

Preparing a story:
> Tell WHAT happened, WHERE it happened, WHEN it happened, HOW it happened, WHY it happened, and WHO made it happen.
> Emphasize human interest. Example: In addition to reporting on a check presentation ceremony, focus instead on who or what benefited as a result of your club’s fundraising efforts.
> Provide anecdotes and quotes from club members, school officials, volunteers and/or others.
> Include newspaper clippings and/or any other informational materials.
> Include the name of a contact person and telephone number or email address for more information.
> Stories (250 – 400 words) can be submitted typewritten, or sent in a word document attached to an e-mail (see address below).

The best images show action, have human interest, and present a subject in an unusual way. Photos that perfectly catch a moment are generally an exception; keep in mind that most require some set-up and posing. Your goal is to create an image that appears as candid and natural as possible.

> Color or black & white photos are fine.
> 300 dpi sent as jpg attachments.
