Tuskegee Airmen of World War II Exhibit. Compliments of the Kennesaw State University Museum of History & Holocaust Education, the East Cobb library will display their Tuskegee Airmen exhibit, which explores the history and heroism of the first African American pilots to fly in combat during World War II. This exhibit offers a look into the historical challenges and triumphs of these unsung American heroes, and will be available for viewing during regular East Cobb Library operating hours. Acworth Slide: World’s Largest Inflatable Water Slide. The 175’ long waterslide is billed as the “World’s Largest Inflatable Water Slide. Each slider must be 42 inches or taller. Marietta Square Art Walk. A free, self-guided tour of historic Marietta Square’s eclectic art scene. Art galleries, museums, cultural venues, restaurants and boutiques hosting artists within their businesses will display an Art Walk banner in their window. Farming Beauty. CenterStage North is proud to present a world premiere by one of their own members, Kevin Renshaw. Art is influential; one painting can change lives and the actions inspired by art can have lasting repercussions. This is the story of Mona, a Pennsylvania farm girl turned installation artist, curator and grandmother. August 5-6: 8pm. August 7: 2pm. August 11: 2 & 8pm. Tickets: $15. 6th Annual Hero Run 5K Race. Run through historic downtown Kennesaw to raise money for wounded veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan. Miss Cobb County Scholarship Pageant. See the new Miss Cobb County crowned! The winner will move on to the Miss Georgia Competition and compete for a $10,000 scholarship. 7pm. $20/ticket. Jennie T. Roswell Riverside Sounds. The Get Right Band is “hip-shaking, earth quaking pure funk fun”. AARP Driver Safety Course. 6-hour classes geared to those 50 and above, an up-to-date, research-based refresher on driving skills, changes with aging and ways to accommodate them, and changes in cars, roads and local laws. Lutzie 43 Road Race 5K. Honoring the memory of Lassiter and Auburn football player, Philip Lutzenkirchen. All proceeds benefit the Lutzie 43 Foundation and the East Cobb County chapter of Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA). The race start/finish line will be inside Lassiter High School’s football stadium and features a fast, smooth run through the streets of East Cobb. 8am. Registration: $43. 2nd Annual Marietta International Film Festival featuring a mixture of short films and feature length films from across the United States and 14 countries.
