Big River: The Musical
, directed by Laura Beth Tanner. Though trying to stay “respectable,” Huckleberry Finn, runs into trouble when his father, Pap, returns to town. Huck is forced to fake his own death to escape and joins up with another on the run – Jim, a slave in the search for freedom. As they head down the river, they get sucked into scams involving two “aristocrats,” one of which lands Jim in chains once again and Huck and Tom Sawyer join together to free him. The Flag Project. Flags are installed by Marietta Kiwanians who place the flags around Cobb County on six nationally recognized holidays each year-Memorial Day, Flag Day, July 4th, Labor Day, September 11th and Veteran’s Day. The proceeds from this project fund Kiwanis Scholarships and other club programs, projects, and grants of the Marietta Kiwanis Foundation. Cobb County Republican Picnic. Star-Spangled Celebration is indoors with air conditioning. Elected officials and candidates for the 2016 Runoff elections will attend. Music and guest speaker. Williamson Brothers Bar-B-Q will provide barbecue pork and chicken, along with hot dogs, baked beans, slaw and all the fixins. Straw Poll for the U.S. Presidential race! Cut and Collect Hair-A-Thon. Annual event to cut and collect hair that is clean and dry and 8-10+ inches long.
