SATURDAY, JUNE 24

See An Artillery Demonstration!

Come on down to Kennesaw Mountain and learn about the weapons used during the Civil War. There will also be a live demonstration of the firing of artillery and the firing of a canon. The demonstration will be held in the Visitor Center front field.

Artillery (cannon) demonstrations show visitors the steps taken to fire cannons during the American Civil War. Each program lasts approximately 30-40 minutes and includes and explanation of the role of artillery during the Atlanta Campaign and at the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain. Artillerists explain the steps of firing a cannon, explaining the role of each person working the cannon. Afterwards, the process is performed in real time and the cannon is fired. Visitors are encouraged to maintain close control of their pets during firing, as it can be loud, and please prepare small children for the sudden burst of sound

Old Fourth Ward Arts Festival

The Old Fourth Ward Arts Festival at the Historic Fourth Ward Park is a two-day celebration of community and tradition.

There is something for everyone: fine arts and crafts, a children’s play area, local food and beverage concessions, live acoustic entertainment on the lawn.  All this within the environment of Atlanta’s most lovely park, part of the celebration on the Beltline redevelopment.  Formerly, this area flanked “City Hall East,” which is now known as Ponce City Market by Jamestown Properties.

Great Blue Heron Workshop

Are you interested to learn more about Georgia wildlife? Join wildlife instructor, Sonya Wood Mahler, from the Cobb County Watershed Stewardship Program to learn about and explore how Great Blue Herons live in the wild wetlands of Georgia followed by a hands-on craft. Bring a blanket or chair and watch the inspiring movie, Rudy, under the stars at Town Brookhaven in Atlanta!  Rudy Ruettiger (Sean Astin) wants to play football at the University of Notre Dame, but has neither the money for tuition nor the grades to qualify for a scholarship, Rudy gains admission to Notre Dame and begins to fight his way onto the school’s fabled football team.
