You can choose from Summer Secret, Chocolate S’More, Monkey’s Dessert or any of the Signature Ice Creams at the newly opened Cold Point Ice Cream in the Woodlawn Point Shopping Center on Johnson Ferry Road. Or better yet, you can customize your own tasty concoction based on your favorite ingredients.

This frozen dessert breaks the traditional concept of ice cream. From its beginnings in Thailand, the cold treat is known as Thai-style rolled ice cream. It’s always fresh and made to order with natural ingredients and no preservatives. With a temperature of less than -12 degrees Fahrenheit, the cream base is poured on a cold plate and mixed with ingredients until the liquid becomes frozen.

According to Ivy Zhang, Cold Point Ice Cream’s new owner, “The process is similar to hibachi-style cooking. The customer watches the server, or artists as we call them, prepare the ice cream.”

An East Cobb resident, Zhang heard about Thai-style rolled ice cream from a friend who travels to Thailand for business. “My friend couldn’t say enough about this new Thai dessert craze and how it was catching on with the Americans who visited there,” she says. “He encouraged me to open a shop in my East Cobb community.”

When asked how many flavors are offered, Zhang can’t answer the question. Although there are ten Signatures Ice Creams, you can combine different cream bases with multiple ingredients and toppings for limitless combinations and flavors. The cream bases are coffee, original (unflavored), green tea, taro and Thai tea. The mixes, swirls and toppings that can be added include a range of ingredients from mango to Frosted Flakes.

If you want a unique dessert at an upcoming event, Cold Point Ice Cream provides full-service catering for weddings, graduations or any parties. A Cold Point artist brings the machine to the event and creates rolled ice cream treats for your guests.

Cold Point Ice Cream is located at 1100 Johnson Ferry Road (inside Publix shopping center). For more information, visit coldpointicecream.com. You can also follow Cold Point on Instagram and Facebook for specials.
