To help celebrate Mother’s Day, this May edition of the EAST COBBER marks the 22nd anniversary of our “Mother of the Year” Contest.

It is exciting to witness the momentum this special promotion has created with each passing year. I am grateful to the many local businesses that donated gifts to our “Mother of the Year” winner (see page 7). Although only one essay is featured, know that there are more moms that are making East Cobb a great place to live and insuring a better future for our children, ourselves and the rest of the world by accomplishing the responsibilities of motherhood. I am proud to be a part of this privileged group called “moms.” I am connected not just to other mothers because of the shared experience of childbirth, or other parents because of our common trials and tribulations of child-rearing, but I also feel a connection to all humans seeking a better world. Being a mother to my children: Lee, 19; Nikos, 17; and, Eleni, 15, reaffirms what I set out to do over 23 years ago when I created this community magazine. Every month, the EAST COBBER magazine (and social media) recognizes those East Cobb residents who are committing their talents and abilities to improve our world — from our graduating high school seniors to our PTA leaders to the members of Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church who have created an annual festival that shares their food and culture with the community (see pages 18 and 19). We are lucky to have these people in East Cobb and as publisher of the EAST COBBER, I am proud to promote their good works.

Happy Mother’s Day!
