Felicia Angelle, principal of Shallowford Falls Elementary School, and assistant principal Jill Spiva recently donned cowboy hats and cowboy boots and rode a mechanical bull in front of the student body during a school wide assembly.

These principals wanted to celebrate the school community exceeding the fundraising goal for the annual Fox Trot Fun Run, which raising more than $39,000 for the school. The original goal was $35,000. Previously, this dynamic duo of principals slept on the roof of the school and also became human frozen yogurt sundaes, to celebrate past fundraising efforts.

Other members of the school community also conquered the mechanical bull: the school mascot, Foxy; 5th grade teachers Allie Benton and Amanda FloydKimeron Puckett, 4th grade; Beth Lawton, kindergarten; and local firefighters from Cobb County Firehouse No. 14 also joined the challenge. Students enjoyed cheering on all the participants and line dancing to some country tunes.

The Fox Trot Fun Run is the annual PTA fundraiser for Shallowford Falls Elementary School. Shallowford Falls keeps 100 percent of the proceeds because this fundraiser is solely planned and executed by PTA volunteers.

For the 2016-17 school year, the funds will be used to enhance the school’s Learning Commons with the latest in educational technology, as well as to support other school enrichment programs, teacher support and more.
