Wheeler Senior MJ Lock is one of 208 graduating seniors from the state of Georgia who has been recognized as a 2018 Georgia Scholar, as announced by State Superintendent Richard Woods.

The Georgia Department of Education, through the Georgia Scholar program, identified and is honoring Ms. Lock as one who has achieved and exhibited excellence in all phases of school life, community activities, and in the home.

Georgia Scholars are high school seniors who have carried exemplary course loads all four years; who performed excellently in all courses; who successfully participated in interscholastic events at school and in their communities; and who have assumed active roles in extracurricular activities sponsored by their schools. Ms. Lock will receive a seal for her diploma.

Ms. Lock will graduate May 23, 2018, from the Center for Advanced Studies in Science, Math & Technology at Wheeler High School with Honors. She was also named the 2017-2018 Positive Athlete Cobb County Regional Winner for Girls Alternative Sport of Water Polo. Other activities/awards she has been involved with/received at Wheeler High School include: National Honor Society, Beta Club, National Technical Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, International Thespian Society, Video Production Pathway completion, Community Service Medallion Award. She had a lead part in the musical production last year (first musical Wheeler presented in over a decade) which was instrumental in Wheeler securing their STEAM certification, she represented Wheeler in the 2018 Schuler Ensemble at the Georgia High School Musical Theatre Awards, and a member of the Cobb Youth Leadership Class of 2017

She will attend Indiana University this fall double majoring in Math and Media specializing in post-production and editing.
